These are productive plants and grow 1 to 3 feet tall, depending on the variety.

Transplanting

When transplanting pepper seedlings, you should space them 24 to 36 inches apart, depending on the variety and whether you’re growing them in a pot or in the ground.

In the ground 

  • Space plants 24 to 36 inches apart
  • Space rows 36 to 48 inches apart
  • Dig a hole deep enough to cover the root ball
  • Ensure the top of the root ball is level with the ground
  • 6-12 hours of direct sunlight per day
  • Water thoroughly and mulch to retain moisture

In a pot

  • Use a container that’s at least 12 inches across and has good drainage holes
  • Select a pot that holds at least 5 gallons of potting mix

  • Use garden stakes and twine to support the plants so they don’t fall over in storms or heavy wind
