Chicago Pickling Cucumber Seedling

Description

This small 2”-4”, rounded cucumber is perfect for pickling. It has a crunchy and sweet flavor. It has thicker skin that helps keep them crunchy during the pickling process.

These are productive plants and grow 1 to 6 feet tall, depending on the variety.

Transplanting

When transplanting cucumber seedlings, you should space them 12 to 18 inches apart, depending on the variety and whether you’re growing them in a pot or in the ground.

In the ground 

• Space plants 12 to 18 inches apart
• Space rows 18 to 24 inches apart
• Prefers loamy, fertile, well draining soil
• Dig a hole deep enough to cover the root ball
• Heavy Feeder. Fertilize regularly throughout the season with a balanced fertilizer.
• 6-12 hours of direct sunlight per day
• Water thoroughly and mulch to retain moisture

In a pot

• Use a container that’s at least 12 inches across and has good drainage holes
• Select a pot that holds at least 5 gallons of potting mix
• Use a trellis support

Support

• Use a trellis system and twine to support the vine as is grows up, or simply leave it roam on the ground
